happy september everyone!
here is your favorite monthly letter from your favorite suz š
in august, Iā¦
šŖ© was booked to roller skate in a movie.
...what's really funny about that is, I CAN'T ROLLER SKATE.
if you've been reading for a while, you know that I get booked by my calling service to be an extra on film & television projects shooting here in LA.Ā
what you might NOT know is, I canāt say no to them.
I set my calendar every week. if my calendar says available and they need me, they book me. period.Ā
if for some reason I canāt show up to the job, I get dropped by my calling service. which would be: bad.
SO, when they reached out to say āYou are booked on a 70s Roller Disco Project and you must be comfortable on skatesā ...
I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO SKATE ON CAMERA.Ā
my skating history: I bought some quad skates during the height of the pandemic because my TikTok feed was full of beautiful roller girls, and I was like, āoh, this is going to be my new thing.āĀ
ā¦I put them on maybe three timesĀ in 2020, and havenāt looked at them since.
but I did add roller skating to my acting resume. not a TOTAL lie........!
once I got booked on this project, I started frantically practicing in my driveway. I wasn't TOO bad, y'all...
I can go forwards without falling, andā¦ thatās about it. can't really turn, can't really STOP (which will be important later).
I worked for 4 days on that movie. it was a blast. I absolutely love period pieces, and I LOVE the 70ās wardrobe and style. itās so me!!
magically, for the first three days, I never actually had to put my skates on. I just did regular background acting in my regular shoes (checkered vans).Ā
but on the last day, they needed everyone in skates.
ā¦we were skating around a rink, and the cameras were rolling, and I f***ing ran into the camera guy, almost knocking him down along with the two girls behind me.Ā
š³
it wasnāt that bad, but it kind of was.Ā
ā¦but yeah, I still got paid. š
this month, I alsoā¦
š went to a lake house in upstate new york, which was a religious experience.Ā
the lake water changed me.
I went with the A-team (my three best friends whom Iāve known since we were 10, whose names all start with A) for annaās 30th birthday.Ā
we kayaked in the rain, went night-swimming (which is my biggest fear), wrote and read poems to our beloved birthday girl, saw a rainbow above the lake, and made friends with oswald the river mink.Ā
I also SUP'd for the first time (stand up paddle board), and watched the sun rise TWICE over the lake (because I tend to accidentally stay up all night).
oh and, we did this tiktok dance.Ā
š¬ additionally, I was informed that my film was ACCEPTED to its second film festival, and was a QUARTER-FINALIST for another!!Ā
š I was also cast in TWO amazing burlesque shows (hosted one and danced in another, which was a Mamma Mia Spectacular!).Ā
the Mamma Mia show was particularly special.Ā
not only because it was a full-on BURLESQUE reenactment of the entire movie (I played Ali) (and I LOVE ABBA).
not only because it went AMAZINGLY well, and that theatre was so full of joy, from the stage to the seats.Ā
it was also our company founderās last show for a while, because she is going on maternity leave! š„ŗš¼Ā
ele, if youāre reading this, I love you. thank you for everything youāve done for me. I am so proud to be part of the burlesque community. Iām so grateful for the growth, skill-sharpening, confidence, and downright RUSH performing live gives me every time. and I wouldnāt have any of that without you & cort & Bubblegum. come back soon now yahear, and put that lil girl in dance classes!!Ā
I could make this so much longer and talk about all the horrible dental work Iām going through and how Iām seeking dental malpractice attorneys BUT that would SO NOT be the vibe for the suzletter. so we will just end there! š¬š¦·š¤Ŗšš»
if you made it this far, comment or email me āMAMMA MIA!āĀ
